Obama is the Real Deal!
June 03, 2008
I was fortunate enough to be able to go hear Obama speak at the Thornton school last week. A few observations…
Obama's Style: It was refreshing to listen to a public figure who did not need a script or teleprompters. He is analytical, warm, and thoughtful. He is also very humble.
Obama's Education Policy: The venue and topic was primarily focused on education and he had the following policy suggestions:
*grant incentives for exceptional teachers
*proper pay for teachers
*customized, individualized teaching approaches
*data and evidence driven reforms, rather than ideological
*loan forgiveness for public service (teaching, military etc.)
*acknowledgment local control is primary
*need for "No Child Left Behind" reform
*wants streamlining of FAFSA fed financial aid for college
Obama's Principles: Barack indicated that he believes a first-rate education is the key to success, democracy, opportunity and ability to compete in a global market place.
